Take the Trip to Blackpool Illuminations From Your Private Caravan Park
Date: 17/09/25

One of the biggest tourist attractions of the year, Blackpool Illuminations, is just a short drive away when you have a quality holiday home on our private caravan park at Morecambe Lodge. It’s a dazzling display of light and colour, including lasers and projections, with some incredible animated scenes that get more creative and more mind blowing every year.
When and where?
The Blackpool Illuminations 2025 were switched on by chart superstar, Olly Murs, on the 29th August, and will stay lit every night until 4th January 2026. They stretch for just under six miles from Squires Gate by Blackpool Airport to Red Bank Road in Bispham.
They are switched on at dusk and switched off at around 10:30pm on weekdays and 11pm at weekends. You don’t even have to make a night of it. From 26th October, the lights are switched on as early as 5pm, and the switch on moves even earlier, to 4:30pm, from 13th December until they finish in January. You can check the illumination times for your visit here.
Illuminating facts
Both the young and the young at heart love the Blackpool Illuminations, and all the incredible facts behind them. Blackpool has been famous for its lights since 1879, when the town was the first to install electric street lights. There were just eight of them on the seafront, but they still attracted thousands of visitors, from local gas-lamp-lit towns, to marvel at what the future might look like.
The Illuminations as we know them today began in 1912, and apart from a brief break for the Second World War from 1939 -1949, they’ve been an annual attraction ever since.
Today the six-mile display includes over a million lamps, 100miles of light strings and 200 miles of wires and cables. The equipment weighs over 700,000kg, about the weight of 350 Blackpool trams, and needs twenty staff, working year-round, to put the show together.
Blackpool Illuminations consume just short of a million units of electricity, costing £50,000, and cost around £2million to stage overall, but the 12million visitors they attract add an estimated £250million to the local economy, making that a pretty good investment.
Just a short drive from your private caravan park
The Blackpool Illuminations are a completely free show, and you can get there in less than an hour from your private caravan park at Morecambe Lodge. You can go on the motorway all the way for a swift and simple journey, via the M6 and M55, travelling 39miles, or take it easy with the slightly shorter, scenic route via the A6 which is just 32miles.
