How The Seaside Holiday Home Has Changed

Ask your grandparents about the seaside holiday homes of their childhood, and you’ll get a completely different picture from the modern luxury of today. Buy a seaside holiday home at Morecambe Lodge and you’ll enjoy comfort without compromise in your very own home away from home. However, things haven’t always been so comfortable.

The early seaside holiday homes

Caravan holidays have been around since the turn of the last century, but they didn’t really achieve widespread popularity until after the Second World War. The late 40s and early 50s saw a huge increase in interest in caravanning, even though the seaside holiday homes of the time were little more than basic boxes.

It wasn’t uncommon to have to fold away the dining table to make your bed, or to have to visit the toilet block the other end of the park whenever nature called. There was no running water, and what electricity you did have came from the car battery! These units were the very definition of cheap and cheerful, though quite how cheerful the family would be on a cold, wet day with no heating is another question.

A rapid improvement

The popularity of seaside holiday homes meant that standards rapidly improved over the next fifty years. Static caravans saw the inclusion of better insulation, basic heating, and much improved cooking and sleeping quarters, now separate from the living room, as they began to feel much less like caravans and more like holiday lodges.

By the 1990s, seaside holiday homes featured a remarkable list of luxuries, including double glazed windows, central heating and fitted kitchens. Best of all, the trek to the toilet block was now a thing of the past. Not only did these modern static caravans include their own bathrooms, but the master bedrooms even had en suite facilities.

The 90s also saw the introduction of much larger units, with the arrival of 12ft wide designs providing much more room for rest and relaxation, even for larger families.

A whole new world

Today, the very latest, modern seaside holiday homes offer a level of luxury that those early caravanners could barely dream of at home, let alone on holiday. According to the National Caravan Council, there are more than 365,000 holiday homes in the UK, showing just how far the humble caravan holiday has come.

Morecambe Lodge units are all fully connected to 16amp mains electric, mains pressure water and have flushing toilets. These seaside holiday homes in Morecambe Bay are fitted to the very highest standards with luxury furnishings, comfortable beds and spacious kitchens. Most even have their own veranda or porch to sit out and enjoy the magnificent sunsets and the far-reaching views of the Lakeland hills.

Naturally, you can also arrange to have wi-fi internet connected directly to the unit. That way you can keep in touch with family and friends while you’re on holiday without burning through your mobile data allowance.

Perfectly placed

Not only are Morecambe Lodge seaside holiday homes perfectly luxurious, they’re perfectly placed too. Long gone are the days were caravan parks were just fields, with cars getting stranded in muddy ruts. Today’s holiday parks are carefully laid out with well-maintained access roads and parking right outside your unit.

Of course, here at Morecambe Lodge, we also go one better, with the beach just 50metres from the park. There’s no need to pack the kids into the car for a day at the seaside, because it’s right there the whole time. From a quiet morning walk along the water’s edge, to a sunset walk along the sand after dinner, you couldn’t be closer to the coast and all its benefits.

If you still think of caravans as cold cramped boxes with no facilities, then perhaps it’s time to think again. To see how much the seaside holiday home has evolved, to become the affordable luxury lodge of today, get in touch to book your complimentary site visit. We promise you’ll be impressed.
